I can call this progress to halt
The project and exhibition I can call this progress to halt, on view at LACE in March-April 2017, considers gestures of protest, unrest, and incendiary exchange as the starting point to a conversation with twenty international artists asked to contribute texts, poems, images, and visual stories to expand upon the challenging themes. Considered together, these function as dispersed, floating representations of contested moments in time that refuse to stand fixed, but instead circulate and vehemently invoke another engagement with the world. The works gathered here demand that the notion of progress be called upon, rethought, and challenged, in particular its capitalist logic of advancement. Featured artists and contributors include Suzy Halajian, Rosalind Nashashibi, Chto Delat, Alejandro Cesarco, Marwa Arsanios, Raqs Media Collective, Adham Hafez, Joanne Nucho, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Shoghig Halajian, Sharon Hayes, Georgia Sagri, Jalal Toufic, Kandis Williams, Gelare Khoshgozaran, Shadi Habib Allah, Dylan Mira, Michelle Dizon, Maha Maamoun, Ayreen Anastas & Rene Gabri.
