Introduction to Kentifrican Culture

Introduction to Kentifrican Culture
Kentifrica is a contested geography/continent for which Kenyatta A. C. Hinkle is developing an education and research platform. Hinkle recreates Kentifrican objects and shares narratives and customs from her research archives. In this way, she explores identity as a construction, inviting critical engagement with the intersections of collective vs. personal histories, Diaspora, migration, immigration, cross-cultural exchange, issues of geography and authority in relationship to knowledge production. This book is one element in a multi-part publication, designed by Sming Sming, the publishing studio of artist Vivian Sming, who experiments with books as art, discourse, exhibition, and archive. Formed in 2017, Sming Sming designs and publishes a wide range of artists' books, zines, and editions out of close collaboration with artists whose works and ideas inform design, material, and printing choices. They are committed to promoting critical discourse and advancing cultural equity through the format of publishing.
