• Summary

Publishing ‘Zines for Prisoners documents a 2014 interview with Anthony Rayson of ABC ‘Zine Distro. Rayson has worked to distribute zines to prisoners, as well as to publish their writings, art, and complete zines. The booklet also contains prisoners’ art sent to him over the years, with seven pages dedicated to the work of Kevin “Rashid” Johnson, a longtime friend of Rayson’s and a prisoner, currently incarcerated in Amarillo, Texas. It is published by Temporary Services (operated by Brett Bloom and Marc Fisher since 1998), a publishing endeavor intended to build long-term support and expanded audiences for people who work creatively in experimental ways. They especially support people and projects that have had difficulty finding financial and promotional assistance through mainstream commercial channels.
