Defense is published in relation to the eponymous exhibition of Boma Pak and Chang Dahae, curated by Jiwon Yu: Defense... partners spinning, matching perfectly, aggression rising, front and back, so still, still life... (2020, d/p, Seoul). The project navigates the art institution from the vantage point of two young female artists, often left unwelcomed and vulnerable, yet not without admiration or anticipation. The conversation between them in the form of joint installation amounts to a fleeting coalition, supporting one another against the almighty "white walls," but not quite successfully, resulting in contention close to self-hate. Embracing the paradox and inconsistencies, there coexist the air of trust falls and potential battles. The booklet contains curatorial essay by Jiwon Yu and images by photographer Hyunseol Cho, along with a poster (YPC Press).
