"The first words my mother, who immigrated from the Dominican Republic, learned in English were, “You Can Do It!” Even after being bullied by other college students, ignored by professors, and overworked at jobs simply for not being “American enough” the phrase “You Can Do It!” motivated her. I translated this phrase and made it the backdrop not only because there is a large Spanish-speaking community in my neighborhood, but also because it demonstrates the power of carving your own space even when others won’t give it to you. This poster was made with the intention of encouraging Latiné migrants, immigrants, and refugees in Hell’s Kitchen to embrace their identities unapologetically and continue to spread their butterfly wings."–Kass Sinchi
