Book Presentation and Talk: Asian Revolutionaries and Asian-American Conservatives
With Matthew Shen Goodman and Minh Nguyen, moderated by Teline Trần

Critic and curator Minh Nguyen joins writer and The Baffler editor-in-chief Matthew Shen Goodman for a discussion on Asian politics across borders and how Asian revolutionary legacies shape diaspora politics in unexpected ways. Occasioned by the release of Nguyen’s essay collection Memorial Park, which examines the afterlife of the Vietnamese revolution—both within the country and among Vietnamese Americans, one of the most conservative Asian diaspora groups—the conversation bridges to Shen Goodman’s recent writing and book-in-progress on the roots of right-wing Asian American movements. Together they consider the usefulness of “Asian American” as an analytical framework, and how art and cultural criticism offer approaches to understanding the political realities of place. Presented by Wendy’s Subway and Art Metropole.

About the fair

The 2025 NY Art Book Fair marks an exciting and long-awaited return to MoMA PS1, where it was held from 2009 to 2019, a pivotal decade that established NYABF as a cornerstone for the distribution of artists’ books and the preeminent gathering point for celebrating the form. This partnership exemplifies a shared commitment to creating spaces where audiences can engage with new ideas and perspectives, and reaffirms Printed Matter’s core mission dedicated to the dissemination, understanding, and appreciation of artists’ books.

NYABF 2025 will feature over 250 exhibitors, including interdisciplinary artistic practices, collectives, small presses, self-publishing artists, rare book dealers, institutions, and distributors. NYABF also offers a discursive platform for engagement in the field of artists’ book publishing through book launches, lectures, exhibitions, discussions, performances, and workshops.
